Botox Treatment

BOTOX is an abbreviation for Botulinum Toxin derived from a bacteria known as Clostridium botulinum. In reality, BOTOX is a protein that has been known for over a century and is in use for medical purposes for over 50 years. The use of BOTOX treatment as an anti-ageing measure is in vogue since 2002.

With increasing age there is appearance of wrinkles on the face due to the prolonged facial expressions such as frowning and smiling. BOTOX injections help remove these wrinkles by causing spasticity of muscles.

Additionally, this treatment is gaining increasing popularity in controlling sweating in the underarm area and palms.

How does BOTOX treatment work?

Botox acts at the neuromuscular junction and inhibits the release of a neurotransmitter acetylcholine. The end result is spasticity of the muscle involved.

The amount of BOTOX to be injected depends on the size of the muscle involved. To exemplify, the amount needed for correction of crow’s feet is lesser than that of frown lines or wrinkles on forehead.
