Thread Lift Side Effects

We have already discussed thread lift as an anti ageing treatment at length. In this article, we have attempted answering the most frequently asked questions on this line of treatment.

Q. How does thread lift work?

A. We know that in thread lift multiple sterile needles with a special thread are injected into the skin causing small wounds. This act of needling induces collagen, new blood vessel formation that in turn causes tightening of the skin and improves the skin tone.

Q. What do we need Thread Lift for?

A. Thread lift is primarily an anti ageing treatment and is used:

  • For contouring of a sagging face, breast, upper arms, and hips
  • To fight wrinkles especially on the face, sometimes even neck. It is mostly advised for:
    • marionette lines – lines that start at the corners of the mouth and go straight down to the jawline
    • nasolabial folds – commonly known as smile lines or laugh lines
    • crows feet – cluster of tiny wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes, and
    • glabella fold – commonly known as frown lines
  • To reduce double chin, flabby arms, and flabby abdomen

Q. What is the typical thread lift recovery time? How safe is this treatment?

Thread face lift is a minimally invasive procedure wherein we make extremely small punctures on the skin. It does not cause any scarring on the skin. There is hardly any risk of bleeding. It is a convenient “lunch-time” procedure with almost zero down time.

Safety wise, thread lift is a completely safe procedure. The threads used are 100% bio-compatible.

The highlight of this treatment is that it yields instant results that may last upto 12-18 months.

Q. What are the typical thread lift side effects?

A. Per se, this treatment has no side effects. However, sometimes when the end of  the inserted thread shows on the surface of the skin, it may cause slight inflammation. This again is not a cause of concern. All we need to do is to cut the edges of the thread and gently massage the skin so the thread completely sinks into the skin.

Q. Is there any contraindication of this procedure?

A. There are no specific contraindications.

Q. What are things to do before undergoing a thread lift?

A. It is advisable to apply a local anaesthetic cream over the treatment site, 45-60 minutes prior to the procedure.

We also advise against a facial or chemical peel 2-3 weeks prior and immediately after the procedure.

Q. What are things to do after undergoing a thread lift?

A. Avoid washing the face for until 6 hours after the procedure. Follow it up with a moisturizer and sunscreen, as advised by your dermatologist.

Q. How long does the thread lift effect last?

A. The threads stay in the skin for up to 6 to 8 months and the lifting effect shows on your skin for up to 12-18 months. For certain cases, we advise 2 sittings of this treatment at a gap of three months.

Q. Who is the right candidate for this treatment?

A. Any person, male or female, of any age can undergo this procedure. The older you are, the more number of threads needed to induce collagen (lifting effect).
